The Monster Jam Debacle...and more.

Ben loves cars and trucks and anything with wheels. He has been collecting monster trucks for quite awhile now and even has a Monster Jam DVD he loves to watch. When I saw that I could get discounted tickets through work for the actual Monster Jam in Cleveland, I just knew he would LOVE it. Trust me...this was not the type of event Mike and I EVER pictured ourselves attending...it was all for Ben! Ben's great-grandmas actually gave us money for the tickets and we gave them to him for Christmas. He knew that after Natalie was born he would be going on a special adventure to the Monster Jam with just mom and dad. He had been talking about it for weeks and was SO excited as we drove up to Cleveland last night!

We had been told by several people that it was very loud, so we would need to bring ear plugs. Little did we know that by loud, they actually meant... ear piercing, deafening, the loudest sound you've ever heard, make your heart race...loud! Ben has always been a little sensitive to really loud sounds, but we thought he had gotten past it and the ear plugs would do the trick. NOPE! All six monster trucks came out of the tunnel at once with their engines revved and that was it! He started sobbing and shaking and looked at me and Mike and said "I want to go home!" It was awful! We thought maybe he'd calm down once it really started, but everytime a truck did something, it was so unbearably loud he couldn't take it. He was so afraid. Nothing like blowing $50 on tickets, $6 on parking, and $20 on a stuffed "Grave Digger" monster truck for a whole lotta nothing! :) Oh well, he was all smiles as we left and is still talking about it today (like he actually had fun in the five minutes we were there?!).

So, instead we went to Blockbuster and rented two "Benny movies", as he likes to call them, and got some ice cream to take home. He stayed up late with us and we had a much less noisy time at home together. Oh well...we tried! Below are some pictures I took before the meltdown...

Oh..and I couldn't do a post without including a few extra pictures of my girl...and Ben and Grammy napping together.
Natalie got to meet Mamaw and Papaw this past week too!

I was just laughing at your last post about how Ben would never enjoy 'crafting' like Alexa. Well, she's not all that into cars, so yes...it's definitely a boy/girl thing!=)

That is a classic story though...and I love that he's telling all sorts of stories about it from the FIVE minutes he was there!!! =)

this is such a sad story. I am so sorry that it was such a bust, but he will probably only remember the good part about it, and in two years, you will be headed back!! :) love the pictures of them both!!

That is awful! But a funny story to look back on. Although I am sure not funny at the moment!! I love that he tells the story about it now, too even though he wasn't there long. What fun parents to (at least attempt) to take him to something like that! I am impressed with you going to something like that after just giving birth! The picture of Denise and Ben is adorable.

Oh no...that is too funny! I am just trying to picture you and Mike at a monster truck rally...can't really contain the giggles. I wish you had video. :) Glad you ended up having a special night with your little man anyways...I'm sure he'll always remember that as a great night with mom and dad! Love you!

oh ali, isn't the life of a mother so much fun. (yes a hint of sarcasm is in there) maybe he will be a very cautious driver unlike you when he is 16, you could hope.

The monster truck story is cracking me up! I am sure Colin would do the same thing...he loves the trucks but hates the loud noises. What great fun parents you are for even attempting it! I am glad your evening was so fun even with the whole debacle that happened! Natalie is absolutely beautiful from the pics here and your last post. When are you coming to IL so we can see them??? :)

Never have known anyone who actually went to a "monster jam"! Love the photo of Natalie looking up at you-so adorable and also am sure Grammy did not okay the use of the napping photo. Love to all!
